We have cultivated a team of industry experts to form one of the most experienced (and, dare we say, most attractive and fun) recruiting agencies. Our team is passionate about helping our English Teachers experience an adventure of a lifetime.

They say that ‘teamwork makes the dream work’ and at Adventure Teaching, this is certainly the case.  What makes us so special? Simple: every member of the Adventure Teaching team has lived and taught overseas. We are uniquely aware and interested in the needs and desires of each teacher because, well, we were all once teachers too!

Reuben Zuidhof

Reuben Zuidhof

Co-Founder // Big Cheese
I’m Reuben. I moved back to Canada after nearly 6 years of living, teaching and working with Adventure Teaching in Asia (which is quite something, considering that my wife and I were only supposed to be there for 1 year). I taught for 2 years at a hagwon in South Korea and 1 year at an international school, both of which I loved and will never forget. After my first 2 years in Korea, I co-founded Adventure Teaching in hopes that others would have the opportunity to experience what I did!

Interests: I’m a sucker for just about anything that has to do with food. Especially Korean food. I always love some good, healthy competition (just a warning: I usually win) and all things sports-related. Stop by our office for a dart game sometime! I’ll go easy on you, I promise…

Dok Hoon Ryu

Dok Hoon Ryu

Asian Office Manager // Flight + Arrival Expert
My name is Dok-Hoon, but you can call me DH. I work out of our AT Korea office, offering the best service I can to both our teachers and our schools. I’ve lived and worked in North America, so my English is rockin’ (because I know you all were wondering, “Am I going to be able to understand that guy?!”). I’ve been helping our teachers get to Asia for a long time, and I look forward to helping you get over here, too! If you have any questions about living or working in Asia, feel free to get in touch with me.

Interests: Live music, a good haircut, and PING PONG – bring it on!

Kelly Hogan

Kelly Hogan

North American Office Manager // Placement Coordinator
I’m Kelly. I’m a half-Canadian, half-American, Asia-loving enthusiast who moved to Vancouver after living and teaching abroad for a few years. Adventure Teaching got me abroad my first year, helped me find a way to stay for the second, and now I couldn’t be happier helping YOU find a way to get there, too. After traveling to just about every country in East and Southeast Asia, I still consider the entire region to be the best kept secret for international travel.

Interests: Give me a mountain and I’ll climb it; a new country and I’ll explore it; a new food and I’ll try it. Can’t seem to get enough of traveling, discovering, experiencing new cultures, and especially hearing people’s stories. I also find a deep, sustaining joy in beating Reuben at darts.

Mindy Horr

Mindy Horr

Admissions Team Supervisor // Placement Coordinator
My name is Mindy. I first traveled with AT to Asia in 2009, I never could’ve imagined how working abroad would impact and change me. I love telling stories about my year in South Korea – hopefully these stories will further reiterate that this is something YOU have to do! I still catch myself at times, shaking my head, “That was so Korean of you, Mindy!”… I love this! After you spend time in one of Asia’s amazing countries, you’ll realize that Asia has become a part of you, too.

Interests: I am my most true self on trains, I’m fascinated by bridges, and I adore children. I love reading, writing, and hearing stories – stories about traveling, growing, exploring, and sitting still. I also like tomato soup and coffee. Not together.

Kim Starmer

Kim Starmer

Placement Coordinator

Hi fellow Adventurers! I’m Kimberley. My husband and I taught English in Asia for a few years before returning to North America. We started in Taiwan, and that was only the beginning of our adventure! It is easy for me to help others teach abroad because it was one of the most fun, practical things I have ever done. I have been a part of Adventure Teaching since the beginning, helping prepare our awesome teachers to live and teach abroad.

Interests: Traveling. Ever since my first experience living abroad in Ecuador, I haven’t been able to shake the travel bug. I love going out to eat and having a glass of wine with my friends. Guilty pleasure? Rediscovering music hits from the 80s.

Mitzie van der Merwe

Mitzie van der Merwe

Social Media Manager

My name is Mitzie, and I am from Pretoria, South Africa. I have been teaching in Asia since February of 2012, and no, I still haven’t left! I make a habit of grasping every opportunity I get to broaden my horizons, and AT has been a huge part of my story (they have helped me find every teaching job I’ve had in Asia). I have learned so much about the world, its people, and myself – really people, this is an opportunity of a lifetime. You would be crazy not to come join me! I have been loving every moment of my experience teaching overseas, and don’t plan on heading home anytime soon.

Interests: Street photography, walking on frozen lakes, and Cadbury chocolate.
