BUSES
There are a number of intra-city and inter-city buses in Korea. Seoul has a color coded system to help for easy travel. It is approximately 500 won to take a local bus and 1500 won to take an inter-city bus connecting the suburbs and central Seoul. You can pay with bills or coins. Avoid paying with bills larger than a 1,000 won. Another option is to purchase a T-Money Transit Card. With this you can easily ride any Seoul bus by just swiping at the pay-box on the bus. These can be refilled at many different convenience stores or at any ticketing booth in subway stations. The following link is a great website that can teach you about buses, routes and fares.

SUBWAY Seoul is equipped with one of the largest subway systems in the world. Ten different lines cover all areas of Seoul and extend into most suburbs. Most districts and areas of Seoul are described and identified by their subway stop. Many people travel by this method as it is easy to get around. You can buy tickets at any ticketing booth by giving the attendant the name of your destination. A much more convenient way to travel is by purchasing a T-Money Transit Card which you can swipe at all subway stations as you enter and leave. See the Cyber Seoul Subway Guide for more details.

BICYCLE/SCOOTER/CAR
If you are looking for other ways to transit between suburbs or within the city, bicycles and scooters are a great alternative. You can buy new or used bikes here, although second-hand bikes are a little harder to find. You can purchase a second-hand scooter for roughly 500,000 won. Scooters are treated similar to bikes when it comes to licensing and insurance- you don’t need either. To buy and drive a car in Korea you need a Korean License. You can obtain one without having to revoke your home country’s license. In the case of renting a car, a Korean or International license is required.
TRAINS
There are two types of trains that run throughout the country- the standard and the speed train. The standard train has six different lines and the prices are relatively cheap for comfortable travel. The KTX, or speed train, is more expensive but can cut your travel time in half. It travels at 300 km per hour. It costs approximately 50,000 won to purchase a one-way ticket from Seoul to the southern part of the country. See this website for routes, destinations, and prices.

AIRPORTS
There are several airports in South Korea. Most of these airports are domestic; however some will fly to different countries in Southeast and East Asia. Incheon Airport is the largest and most widely used international airport in Korea. It was renovated about 10 years ago, and is traveler and foreigner friendly. You will find all the signs translated into English. There is an exceptional airport bus system that operates from all pockets of Seoul and most suburbs. Information regarding bus numbers and destinations is available at the airport. Airport buses run from approximately 5am to 11pm in intervals of about 20 minutes. See this website for information regarding airport buses, routes, times and fares.
