The official language of South Korea is Korean. It is one of the most phonetically correct languages in existence. The written alphabet is made up of symbols that represent phonetic sound- unlike Chinese which has pictures to represent thoughts and whole words. It is made up of only 19 sounds: vowels and consonants. Korean can be read easily, but it is difficult for English speakers to learn because of the complex grammar.

Here is a look at the Korean Alphabet. Each letter is phonetic, much like English. The gray below the symbol is the approximate sound in English and the black writing is the name of the Korean symbol.
