CELL PHONES
underline
South Korea’s cell phone market operates on a separate network from most of the world. If you own a cell phone in your home country, it will not work in Korea. Cell phones can be purchased after you receive your alien registration card. Your school should assist you with this. If you purchase a new phone, they can be costly, however, a good place to find used cell phones is Yongsan Electronics Market or the Dongdaemun Market. Actual monthly plans will range from about 30,000-50,000 won per month. For temporary visitors, cell phone rentals are available upon arrival at the airport.

A more convenient way to go is to have a pay as you go plan. This works very much like the way it does in North America. You do not need a plan, and usually you don't even need an alien registration card. You will need your passport and a phone in order to register for this. You can put any amount of money on at a time and to refill you only need to go back to the phone store with cash in hand. When your time runs out, you will still be able to receive phone calls and texts, however, you will not be able to send anything.

Get a great phone, at the right price, without any stress. And do that all before you even arrive in Korea!
Go to AT Add-Ons and be prepared before you arrive!

SKYPE
underline Possibly the best way to keep in touch with friends and family back home is through skype. It is a computer program that allows you to call home, FREE, through the internet. You can also set it up to make calls to landlines or cell phones back home for a great price of 2 cents a minute.
