The Adventure Teaching Process

1    You read through our website thoroughly.

Our website provides an excellent introduction to living and working abroad. It will help you decide whether moving abroad is the right move for you.  If you are unsure about the experience or would just like more specific information, send us an email at anytime.  We’re happy to help in any way we can!

2    You apply online.

Are you feeling ready to take the plunge? After you’ve taken some time to research this opportunity, take 10 minutes and fill out our application.  Be sure to have your resume and professional picture ready to submit when you apply.

3    Your application is reviewed by our Admissions Team.

We are looking for flexible, enthusiastic and responsible teachers who are committed to the adventure of living and working in another culture… for an entire year!

4   If you are accepted, you are part of the Adventure Teaching Community!

5    You are assigned a placement coordinator.

Upon being accepted into Adventure Teaching, you will be assigned a placement coordinator.  Your placement coordinator will be your go-to person throughout the rest of the process, and will give you information on where to start with gathering your visa documents.

6    You collect all your visa documents.

If you are serious about teaching English abroad, we would recommend starting this process immediately upon acceptance into Adventure Teaching (if you haven’t already).  Gathering your visa documents can take between 3-6 weeks (China) or 8-16 weeks (Korea) – your diligence, attention to deadlines, and prompt communication is paramount!

7    Your placement coordinator will submit you for open positions overseas.

Depending on your preferences, the status of your visa documents and what jobs are available, your profile will be submitted to different schools. We will not send you an enormous list of available jobs to sort through – that’s not our style.  We will do the heavy lifting, and send you one or two job opportunities that we think will be a good fit for you.  Although we have many schools requesting teachers each month, we know that a long list of jobs without thorough descriptions will be more confusing than helpful.  We want you to have the ability to differentiate one job from the next.

8    You interview with a school director.

Your placement coordinator will set up interviews for you when schools are interested in your profile.  These interviews are almost exclusively conducted over Skype.  You will usually only be given 1-2 days notice, so please be flexible. Because interviews with directors abroad don’t follow any set format, your interview may be 5 minutes or 55 minutes long.  They might ask you several questions or they might try convince you to work at their school without asking questions. Remember you are representing AT in each interview, so always be positive and present yourself as the flexible, outgoing person that you are.

9    You contact a current teacher at the school.

If the director is interested in moving forward with you,  we will put you in touch with a current English teacher at the school so that you can ask questions about the location and teaching environment.

10    Your placement coordinator sends you a teaching contract.

Once the interview has been completed and there is mutual interest, we will send you a contract from the school.  Because of the competitive nature of teaching positions abroad, we always encourage you to make a decision within 1-2 days to ensure that you secure the job. Please note that school directors rarely wait more than 4 days for a decision from a teacher.

11    You sign and we help you with obtaining your Visa! we prepare you for your departure.

Once you have signed the contract, your school will submit your documents to immigration to obtain your VIN. This usually takes 10-14 business days. You will then apply for your actual Visa with your local Korean consulate (this can take up to 14 business days).

12   We prepare you for departure and then you arrive and embark on the adventure of a lifetime!
