Adventure Teaching Process

Important: Fast communication with the Adventure Teaching staff is very important. Applicants
must show responsibility and promptness in their replies. Adventure teaching puts a lot of thought and effort into making your transition as smooth as possible. Our service is absolutely free to our teachers. All we ask in return is quick and honest communication.

Applicant reads through our website
Our website provides an excellent introduction to living and working in South Korea. It will help you decide whether moving to Korea is the right move for you. If you are unsure about the experience or would just like more specific information, send us an email at anytime. We’ll help you sort through your thoughts. |
 |
Applicant sends us an application form, resume and photo
We also encourage our applicants to send cover letters, reference letters and any other documents that will help get potential employer’s attention and demonstrate that you are a responsible employee.

Adventure Teaching will conduct a phone interview with the applicant
After reviewing your documents, we will contact you by email to arrange an Adventure Teaching interview. We conduct the phone interview for a couple of reasons
First: We want to introduce ourselves to you and answer any questions you have about living and teaching in South Korea.
Second: We want to get a better grasp of your expectations, experiences and teaching qualities. This conversation helps us accurately portray you to potential employers. The phone interview usually takes about 20-60mins. See a list of some sample questions.
Note: Due to the turnover of current teachers and hiring times, if your start date is several months away from the current date, you will most likely have to wait until roughly 3 months to 45 days before your start date before you move on to steps 5-10. We will do our best to send you updates on your process, but if you don’t hear from us for awhile do not be concerned. We assure you, we won’t forget about you. |

Adventure Teaching will email your resume and photo to potential employers
We will only send your resume to schools we think will be a good fit for you. We never release any of your personal contact information until we have arranged an interview for you.
NOTE on Steps 5 through 10:
Due to the competitive nature of the ESL job market in Korea, jobs are constantly opening and closing. It is a very fluid market where things change very quickly. It is important to check your email and respond to our emails frequently. If you are going to be out of communication for a few days please let us know so we can adjust accordingly. |
 |
Adventure Teaching will send you our Recommended Job Offers
We will not simply send you an enormous list of available jobs. We will send you one or two job offers that we think will be a good fit for you. Although we have countless jobs available each month, we know that a long list of jobs without thorough descriptions will be more confusing than helpful if this is your first experience in Korea. We want you to have the ability to differentiate one job from the next. If you have worked in Korea before and know what you are looking for, we will do our best to accommodate your job priorities.
If you are not interested in the positions we sent you, we will repeat steps 5 and 6. |
 |
Applicant will interview with potential imployers
If you are interested in the position/s we sent you, we will schedule a convenient time for you to speak with the school’s representative/s by phone.
Note: There is no set format for the school interview. Sometimes the school representatives are very professional and will ask you a number of questions and analyze your responses, much like a job interview. Other representatives, will be more informal and will be more interested in answering your questions than getting their own answered. It is important that you approach all interviews in a professional manner. Feel free to ask questions, but be sure that you wait until the set “interview” portion is finished.
Important: After you have an interview with a school, the school will expect to hear your impressions and level of interest in the position very soon. If a teacher prolongs their decision for too long the school will consider the position unfilled and pursue other teachers. Be sure to do your research on the school as fast as possible.

Applicant looks over the employee contract and clears up any questions
If the school would like to offer you a position, we will send you the school’s teaching contract. Before we send you the contract, we will look it over for you. We have viewed hundreds of teaching contracts, so we should be able to catch things that are unusual or inappropriate. After reading through the contract, feel free to contact us to inquire about any of the contract details or points that you are uncomfortable with. |
 |
Applicant will contact a current foreign teacher (step performed upon your request)
Current foreign teachers at the school you are researching will be able to provide you with the most realistic view of the current working and living conditions. We will always do our best to connect you with one or two current teachers. In some circumstances though, the school may not have current foreign teachers (ie. You are the school’s first foreign teacher or the previous foreign teacher was fired etc).
Here are some great questions to ask current teachers at the school. |
 |
Applicant accepts or declines the position
At this stage you should have a pretty good idea as to whether or not you want to accept or deny the position. As soon as you have made your decision, please let us know. If you choose to accept the position, you will move on to step 11. If you choose to decline, we will return to step 5. |
 |
Applicant will sign the Contract and finish the visa process
After accepting a position, Adventure Teaching will submit the required documents to your institution. The applicant will follow the rest of the visa process. |
 |
Plane ticket to Korea
In most cases, the teacher’s plane tickets are booked after the visa process is completed. Adventure Teaching will coordinate with the school to arrange your plane flight to Korea. The returning flight will be purchased by the employer upon successful completion of your contract. |
 |
ARC (Alien Resident Card)
After you have arrived in Korea, your school should start the process of aquiring your ARC. Every foreigner in Korea with a working visa must have their ARC. Some people say to carry them everywhere you go, but through our experiences this is unnecessary. If you you haven't received your ARC within the first 6 weeks, please first enquire with your school, and second, contact us. |
